Big Gigantic – It’s Goin Down

Dominic Lalli is a famous saxophonist. Who produces dub step. Along with a couple of other project’s, The Motet and Juno What?!, Lalli has teamed up with drummer Jeremy Salken to form Big Gigantic and the resulting work so far has been, well, awesome. The blend of jazz and electronic music is compelling and has most recently lead to the groups newest album, Nocturnal, which can be downloaded for free on their site.

WZRD Feat. Desire – Teleport 2 Me

WZRD, the duo made up of the venerable Kid Cudi and Dot Da Genius, Kudi’s long time friend and producer, has an album scheduled to drop on the 28th. This is one of a couple tracks that they’ve leaked and it’s hard not to love. Desire is another small band that released an album back in 2009, entitled II, which featured the song “Under Your Spell”. That song is on the soundtrack for the recently released Gosling film “Drive” and is of course sampled by WZRD on Teleport 2 Me.

Interview: Shelby Cinca on iPads and Triobelisk

After yesterday’s post about iPads and interactive music, we got curious about whether Shelby Cinca’s iPad game was a good “gateway drug” to his other stuff. He’s been making music in various bands (including Frodus, Frantic Mantis, The Cassettes, and Triobelisk) for nearly 20 years.  Given his history with music, bands and the industry, it is perhaps not surprising that he’s on the cutting edge of today’s music/media/technology diaspora.  His electronica, under the name Triobelisk, has evolved into something that has reached imaginatively beyond music and into an iPad near you.  The game, entitled Tri-tri-triobelisk, is about to be updated with new material.  He chatted with We Heard That briefly about iPads, music and this moment in time.

Young The Giant – Apartment

20110711-042427.jpgApartment opens up Young The Giants self-titled debut which released late last year. Artists usually try to make some sort of statement with their opener and Apartment is no exception. The first track has a sort of soul to it that echoes throughout the album, led by vocalist Sameer Gadhia and his crazy vibrato. The band has a show lined up at The Social on the 22nd of September. That’s a few months from now so if you happen to live in Orlando then you have something to look forward to. Check out the rest of their touring schedule here if not. Favorite Line: I hit the sidewalk, and this is how it starts.

Music To Sink Your Fingers Into

Triobelisk iPad game

Shelby Cinca, musician behind the techno mixes of Triobelisk, has it. Dallas-based band Polyphonic Spree has it.  Bjork has it. And a lot of other bands probably have it too.  What do they have?  Highly interactive music via iPad applications.  The Triobelisk application is an actual game, highlighting gameplay inspired by the illuminati-esque philosophy of the band.  Polyphonic Spree’s application is more like a music video that invites participation, beckoning the user to jump a little monopod-thingie through a doodled world.  And Bjork will have ten applications, one for each song from her Biophilia album. According to sources, one of them at least will be an interactive game.  (Edit: A trailer for this just came out.)

The Glitch Mob – Warrior Concerto

The Glitch Mob are at it again. Warrior Concerto is their first single off of the upcoming EP We Can Make The World Stop, which drops on the 12th of July. Two days before they’ll be here in Orlando, live at The Beacham. Yeah, I’m excited as shit. This is our generations classical music. People will play this to make their babies smarter in a hundred years. When I’m old I’m going to drive down the road in my Cadillac bumping this. And it’s still going to be cool.

Cults – You Know What I Mean

20110707-024647.jpg
Sounding like a cross between a 1960′s ballad and the typical, ethereal, post-MGMT instrumental, Cults’ Madeline Follin and Brian Oblivion do an awesome job of keeping things interesting. I particularly enjoy the song dropping after the first chorus and the pitch change during the second. They have a new fan. Favorite Line: Lonely, that’s not quite my problem, I have all that I need, haven’t quite lost it.
